Loneliness is not a small problem. It is linked to faster cognitive decline, poorer heart health, and higher rates of hospitalisation. A PlugCare companion turns an empty afternoon into a visit worth looking forward to β conversation, a walk, a card game, a trip to the grocery store, or simply someone in the house so the family can breathe.
Most people do not leave their home because of a medical event. They leave because the housework became unmanageable. Help at home is the least glamorous and most effective way to extend independent living β a clean kitchen, a stocked fridge, clean laundry, and a home that is safe to move through.
Giving up the car keys should not mean giving up the life. Our caregivers drive clients to medical appointments, wait through them, take notes, and drive them home β then send the family a summary. For clients who need a steady arm, we assist with transfers, stairs, walkers and wheelchairs.
When needs become clinical, the caregiver has to change with them. PlugCare provides Personal Support Workers and, where the care plan requires it, Registered Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses β for dementia and Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, stroke recovery, the fragile weeks after a hospital discharge, and palliative care at home.
For most standard requests we can complete the assessment within 2 business days and begin care within 3 to 5 days. Urgent hospital discharges are prioritised β call us and say it is a discharge.
Rates run from $19/hour for companionship to $38/hour for specialized care, depending on the service and the caregiver's qualifications. The minimum booking is 3 hours per visit. There is no membership fee and no lock-in contract. Overnight, live-in and statutory holiday rates differ β the written care plan sets out every number before you commit.
In Ontario, publicly funded home care is arranged through Ontario Health atHome, and eligibility and hours are decided by them, not by us. Private home care may also be covered under extended health benefits, veterans' benefits, or a long-term care insurance policy. We will tell you what to ask for, and we will not pretend to know your coverage β check with your plan administrator.
That is the design. You are matched with a primary caregiver, with a named backup introduced in advance for illness and vacation. If the match is not right, tell us and we re-match at no cost.
Yes. Where the care plan calls for it we assign Registered Practical Nurses or Registered Nurses β for wound care, medication administration, catheter and ostomy care, and palliative support. Personal Support Workers cannot perform controlled acts, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Neither are most families when they call. That is what the free assessment is for β a nurse tells you honestly what is needed, including when the answer is βless than you thinkβ.
